Hurricane Helene Response

We will be partnering with the South Central Ohio District Church of the Nazarene to respond to the needs.
Here is a letter created by their Director, Jerry Carpenter.

Dear Nazarene Disaster Response Team,

Hurricane Helene has caused extensive damage in four states: Florida, North Carolina, Georgia and East Tennessee. Please keep reading if you would like to know how you can respond.

Here are the emerging details:

  • Florida, East Tennessee and parts of Georgia have extensive damage.
  • Western North Carolina, the mountainous area, was hit the hardest by this storm.
  • The South Central Ohio District Nazarene Disaster Response will focus on North Carolina.
  • The South Central Ohio District Nazarene Disaster Response Director, Jerry Carpenter, is communicating directly with Nazarene Compassionate Ministries as they assess the damage and put together a response plan.
  • Emergency disaster response teams are NOT allowed into any location at this time. Many locations are restricted by the authorities. Roads are washed out; power lines are down and water and sewage systems have been destroyed. Authorities are still clearing the roadways, searching for lost people. As in so many disaster response situations, outside teams who come too early would only make matters worse, rather than better at this point.
  • Nazarene Compassionate Ministry teams are assessing damage and establishing partnerships to provide adequate, safe housing for work teams as well as partnerships with local ministries to work alongside.
  • The South Central Ohio Nazarene Disaster Response Team are tentatively planning Mission Trip Weeks for Nov. 10-17, ‘24 & Dec 14-21, ’24.
  • Local Churches and Nazarene Districts from the area can coordinate their trips with Pastor Jerry Carpenter (nazpastorjc@icloud.com)  (740) 804-2224. When adequate facilities to host teams are available we will move forward with finalizing plans.
  • Please use the attached pre-registration form that you should use to register for one of these trips. Please complete the form and return it to Jerry Carpenter at: nazpastorjc@icloud.com.
  • Teams and team members from outside the South Central Ohio District are welcome. Simply send in this registration form: (Click Here).
  • All forms should be sent via email to:
    Pastor Jerry Carpenter;  nazpastorjc@icloud.com
Questions? Call Pastor Jerry Carpenter, (740) 804-2224.

Skilled & Unskilled Help Needed: We need skilled laborers, including contractors, skilled laborers, electricians, masons, plumbers, and heavy equipment operators.

Laborers under the age of 18 have a letter signed letter from parents and a recommendation letter from your current lead pastor.  Just attach these documents to the pre-registration form enclosed.

Work Plan: Our current plans are clean up and mucking out homes.  This entails a lot of different type of work.

Transportation:  We will plan to move to our housing/work locations in convoy manner. Access and parking may be limited so the more we can carpool the better.  Do you have a church van you can drive?  We need them too.

More information will follow.

Better together,

Pastor Jerry Carpenter
